The first time I used it I fell with love it. I’m not taking 30 minutes to start my wood stove anymore. The kindling lights up fast.
Mounted to an oak stump is the way to go! Use an eight lb sledge to get smaller pieces then three of to get your kindling. Sharpen blade with a fine file. Kindling made easy!

You can see that once we figured it out is was easy after that so it is a keeper and makes splitting kindling an easy task for both myself and my husband.
The is pretty big. It works great! Keep the blade sharp and you should be fine. Note that this is a kindling splitter, not a log splitter. If you’re trying to throw an 8” whole log on this thing, you’re gonna have a bad time. This is best used when you already have split wood that you want to cut down further into smaller pieces (kindling) that help to get a fire started.I frequently get pallets for free from work and cut around the nails/staples/screws to cut the boards into about 14-16” lengths - then I use this thing here to split the boards down to kindling. Super dry pallet wood makes for the best kindling. Catches fire quick and burns pretty hot.
I hollowed out the center of a stump to make it easier for longer pieces to split. I also realized wood slpits better in the dead center rather than proping it up against the side rail.
